Abstract

GATA binding protein 2 and 6 (GATA2 and GATA6) are zinc-finger transcription factors involved in proliferation of hematopoietic and endocrine cell lineages, and in cell differentiation and organogenesis, respectively, which are important mechanisms in early pregnancy. Binding of GATA2 to the progesterone receptor (PGR) gene promoter induces PGR expression. GATA2 also interacts with PGR and contributes to PGR-mediated transcriptional activity. Gata2 deficient mice are infertile due to an impaired uterine response associated with lower PGR levels and attenuated progesterone signaling and defective decidualization.
