Abstract

This article explores a number of issues which surround the term ‘dyslexia’. It has been written from the point of view of an adult literacy tutor who teaches and counsels adults on an adult literacy scheme and highlights some of the implications (and possible dangers) of labelling people as ‘dyslexic’. The article examines the ways in which dyslexia is diagnosed and looks at possible ‘cures’. Most importantly, it suggests ways to avoid ‘catching’ dyslexia in the first place.
