Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the factors influencing the occurrence of sexual dysfunctions in the course of depression and bipolar disorder in women. The authors of the study reviewed the literature available in the PubMed and Scopus databases for the period from January 1, 2010 to March 31, 2020. Research emphasizes the role of sexual dysfunction as a symptom of the disease, and also highlights the dependence on pharmacotherapy, comorbidities and sleep disorders. Understanding the type and causes of sexual dysfunctions in patients may improve compliance, and thus translate into better results of the therapy. Based on available sources, possible directions for future research can also be determined.
