Abstract

The organizational conflict between or within organizations has attracted the attention of many scholars. Dysfunctional conflicts, one dimension of the dark side of organizations, can have detrimental consequences. The manner of handling dysfunctional conflict is the key to the effective functioning of organizations. This study theoretically examines the dysfunctional conflicts on the ground set by the extensive conflict literature and makes evaluations of their antecedents and outcomes. The study aims to present a source for researchers and practitioners by establishing the links between the conflict types by their sources and their organizational implications. In this context, the first section analyzes the basic concepts and dimensions of conflict and conflict management. The second section examines the sources and outcomes of, and the negativities caused by dysfunctional conflicts. The third section summarizes the theoretical and empirical findings for terminating or reducing dysfunctional conflicts. The last section makes some evaluations in the context of conflict management.
