Abstract

A calculation of the reduced spin susceptibility χzz(k, Ω) of the paramagnetic phase of a system of interacting electrons in a narrows band is presented. The treatment is based on a linear response technique for the perturbed system using the Hubbard decoupling scheme within a Greens function method. The result has the property of reducing to a modified random phase result in the weak-interaction limit and is intended to be a valid interpolation formula for all values ofI/Δ. Also presented are conditions for the instability of the paramagnetic phase against the ferromagnetic and the antiferromagnetic state.
