Abstract

summary This paper is concerned with the functional modeling of the investigated physiological subsystem. Nonlinear nonpara-metric models having Hammerstein or Wiener structure are precluded by the authors to describe biological systems For this purpose sequences of test signals by means of optimal static designs of experiments were developed, that guarantee a high accuracy of the estimated models and also a minimum number of experiments, that include a wide frequency range and that easily allow to guarantee the reproducibility. Having used these lest sequences we can observe a marked decrease in the number of experiments needed to characterise the transfer function.
