Abstract

This book focuses on the influence of early user communication on the success of movies. It is based on the observation of sales trends for non-daily media, such as films and music albums, which deviates from the traditional assumptions of diffusion research. The study analyses the dynamics and impact of user communication and communication by professionals before a film’s cinema release, using sophisticated statistical methods such as path and growth curve models. This enables a detailed insight into the emergence of and interactions between different communication streams. The book thus shows that considering communication dynamics can significantly improve the demand model in this respect.
