Abstract

The wave equation for an electromagnetic field that propagates in chiral carbon nanotubes is analyzed with allowance for an external static electric field. An equation for the pulse evolution that is similar to the sine-Gordon equation is derived. The dependences of the dynamics of an electromagnetic pulse on the external field, initial amplitude, and pulse velocity are studied. The analysis is performed with allowance for and disregard of the external field.
