Abstract

We report the investigation of two-dimensional magnetic polarons formed from excitons localized in very thin nonmagnetic CdTe quantum wells confined by Cd 1- x Mn x Te semimagnetic barriers. The effective magnetic polaron formation is demonstrated in quantum wells thinner than 30 Å. Polaron formation times measured by use of picosecond time-resolved photoluminescence are found to be 100–250 ps at 1.6 K and strongly depend on the quantum well width.
