Abstract

We present neutron inelastic-scattering measurements of superfluid ${}^{4}\mathrm{He}$ in porous xerogel glass. Two-dimensional scattering at all wave vectors is observed. Six pore-filling fractions were studied at constant temperature $T=1.25\mathrm{K}.$ We established the dependence on the pore-filling fraction and on the wave vectors of the energies, widths, and intensities of both the three-dimensional and the two-dimensional phonon-maxon-roton excitations. Comparisons are made with the results of neutron studies of thin helium films and of helium in contrasting porous glasses.
