Abstract

The macroreticular isoporous polymers (MIPs) discussed here are characterized by high sorption activity with considerable concentrations of hydrocarbons in vapor-air mixtures, low regeneration temperatures, and hydrophobicity. Results are presented from an investigation of the dynamics of n-pentane vapor sorption by MIPS from vapor, air mixtures under near-adiabatic conditions, with a linear velocity of the vapor-air mixture from 85 to 850 g/m/sup 3/. The variation of the temperature and sorbate concentration in the vapor-air mixture was also determined. The results from this work have been used in developing engineering rules for the design of an experimental/commercial unit for the collection and utilization of hydrocarbon vapor displaced in loading light petroleum products into railway tank cars.
