Abstract

Monte Carlo computer simulation of the relaxation of body-centred-cubic lattice models of polymer chains confined in an infinite cylinder have been performed in order to investigate the effect of diameter of infinite cylinder on the dynamics of polymer chains. Chains of length 12–60 beads for various diameter of infinite cylinder are studied, with and without excluded volume. It is found that the relaxation times TR of the end-to-end vector and Tk of the first three normal modes for the isolated chains are greater than those for polymer chains confined in an infinite cylinder with large diameter, and less than those with small diameter. This simulation can provide some insight into the nature of reptation models.
