Abstract

The acoustic phonons in a diatomic molecular monolayer have been studied below and above the ferroelastic phase transition temperature by both constant pressure molecular dynamics (MD) and quasi-harmonic lattice dynamics. Time dependent correlation functions and dynamic structure factors obtained in the MD simulations are given. Phonon dispersion relations along different symmetry directions are presented. Softening of phonon frequencies near the phase transition is discussed.
