Abstract

ABSTRACT We demonstrate modulation of polychromatic mid-infrared radiation using a liquid crystal layer embedded between Germanium plates. The latter can serve both as transparent substrates and as electrodes for electro-optic addressing. The observed contrast ratios and response times make these modulators promising candidates for mid-infrared radiation control, for example, in chemical sensing applications.
