Abstract
A dynamical theory for spectral diffusion in optical spectra of solids is proposed. This theory in contrast to the stochastic theories for spectral diffusion takes into account both diagonal and off-diagonal interactions of a chromophore with long living tunneling systems. These interactions yield the spectral diffusion of homogeneous and inhomogeneous type, respectively.
