Abstract

The free-vibration analysis of dynamical systems consisting of beams and spring-mass oscillators with a rigid-body degree of freedom is presented in this paper. The 1986 mathematical model of Nicholson and Bergman is considered for such dynamical systems, and an exact eigenanalysis is performed using the particular integral method. A number of numerical examples are considered to compare the accuracy and efficiency of the particular integral method with the Green’s function implementation of Nicholson and Bergman. It is observed that the computer implementation of the particular integral method requires significantly less central processing unit (CPU) time for dynamical systems with a large number of oscillators.
