Abstract

We report on a Stokesian Dynamics simulation studyof monolayers of spherical colloidal particlesdiffusing in the midplane between two parallel walls. The methodaccounts for many-body hydrodynamic interactions (HI) betweenparticles and particles and walls. Two cases are studied: hardspheres between neutral walls and charged particles interacting by a Yukawa-type potential.Various properties are calculated: mean-squareddisplacement, self-diffusion coefficient, van Hovefunctions and hydrodynamic functions. The importance of HI is assessed by treatingparticle-particle and particle-wall HI separately. Strikingfeatures are discussed like the hydrodynamic enhancement of self-diffusion for strongly chargedparticles and the unbounded increase of the hydrodynamic function at smallwave numbers.
