Abstract

A main purpose of this paper is to develop a density matrix formalism that can treat the effect of vibrational relaxation and vibrational dephasing on electron processes in condensed phases. Master equations will be derived. It will be shown that in this formalism the memory functions involved in master equations play a very important role in describing the time evolution of the system. As an application of this density matrix formalism, we present a theory of vibrational effect on luminescence. In this case, intramolecular vibrational relaxation, lattice vibrational relaxation and dephasing, and electronic relaxation should be considered simultaneously. Numerical calculation has been performed to illustrate the theoretical results.
