Abstract

The primitive chain model of Doi and Edwards (1978) for the Brownian motion of concentrated entangled polymer systems is studied. The Langevin equation is solved for times before the chain has lost all memory of its initial configuration. The probability distribution is calculated in terms of the initial configuration, and the development of new tests of the reptation hypothesis from these results is discussed.
