Abstract

This chapter introduces some concepts of a general nature about the behaviour of dynamical systems, with particular attention being paid to those classes of systems whose cognitive properties will be studied in the following chapters. Artificial cognitive systems often are built on reasonably simple elementary structures, so that it is possible and worthwhile developing a quantitative treatment. On the other hand, as we have already mentioned and as we shall see later, even simple elements can lead to complex and unforeseeable behaviours.
