Abstract

The dynamical behavior of a compressible elastic rod, left in a nonequilibrium state, is described in the current configuration in a context of large strains and velocities. The phenomenon is governed by a nonlinear hyperbolic system of differential equations in which the unknown are the mass density, the velocity and the stress fields. Some particular cases are simulated from the solution of the associated Riemann problems.
