Abstract

Voltage instability is one of the key issues in continuously evolving power systems. In this paper, the Thevenin's equivalent method is combined with a static voltage stability index (VSI) to identify the critical load demands of the power system. In Thevenin equivalent's method, the large power system can be represented as an equivalent voltage source Vth and equivalent impedance Zth across an identified load bus. To verify the proposed approach, the algorithm has been implemented on IEEE 30-Bus System, IEEE 39-New England Bus System and IEEE 118-Bus System. Simulation results are obtained using MATPOWER, a MATLAB based open-source software. The obtained results are compared with the benchmark Continuous Power Flow (CPF) method.
