Abstract

Since 1978, regional difference in China has been one of the most important topics attracting scholars' attention both at home and aboad. However, most studies are based on provinces, and have paid less attention to the trends and mechanisms of regional economic difference within basin. This paper takes the 42 counties in Tarim Basin of Xinjiang as regional study unit, and per capita GDP as total index to measure regional economic difference. It quantitatively measures the overall level and the characteristics of dynamic variation and spatial structure of the counties economic difference, in view of the standard deviation coefficient of every county's per capita GDP, the ratio of every county to the Tarim Basin, and the difference of every county's relative development rate, The result showed that the widening tendency has been represented in the economic difference of the counties. The regression model was set up based on the relation between the growth rate of whole Basin's GDP and the standard deviation of every county's per capita GDP. According to this model, the warn standard of the county' economic difference was probed. The standard deviation of per capita GDP is 8 399.59 yuan, while it had already been overpassed in 2006.
