Abstract

The dynamic surface tension of surfactant and polymer solutions can be measured by different experimental techniques, each of them having a specific time window, from the range of milliseconds up to seconds, minutes, and hours. In the present paper, the application is described of a new design of maximum bubble pressure instrument for measuring the dynamic surface tension of surfactant solutions in the millisecond time interval. The results obtained with the MPT1 for different surfactant systems are compared with data from other methods. The presented experimental results show the high accuracy and good reproducibility of the maximum bubble pressure measurements. The dynnamic surface tension data show excellent agreement with those from drop volume, oscillating jet and inclined plate methods. In all methods the effective surface age was calculated via the corresponding theories.Key wordsMaximum bubble pressuredynamic surface tensionsurfactantsdrop volume method
