Abstract

Generally, backcalculation analysis based on FWD test data is an unstable procedure greatly influenced by several types of errors. These errors may be categorized by accuracy of forward analysis, measurement error, instability of backcalculation analysis, etc. Due to instability of the backcalculation algorithm, seed values of layer moduli highly influence backcalculation results, especially in case of thin asphalt concrete layer. In this paper, following verification of the accuracy of forward analysis, importance of dynamic backcalculation analysis will be explained and the use of Monte Carlo simulation for seed values of layer moduli to accurately backcalculate layer moduli will be presented.
