Abstract

The dynamic instability of a rectangular plate with four free edges is investigated. One edge of the completely free plate is subjected to a uniformly distributed non-conservative follower force, the direction of which is controlled in proportion to the rotation angle of the loading edge. The plate may have both flutter and divergence type instabilities when the force is non-conservative, although it may have only divergence type instabilities when the force is conservative.
