Abstract

Sustainable hydropower, cascade development and construction not only bring regional land-cover changes, but also cause the change of ecological environment. So it is very important to assess the environmental impacts of hydropower development by analyzing the effects of the cascade hydropower development on the land-use changes. In this paper, CLUE-S model is applied to the cascade hydropower station construction area of Yellow River upstream to simulate the land use changes with and without hydropower development planning scenarios. The land-use types are compared to the data before hydropower cascade development and after. It selects 12 kinds of drive factors that have made important contributions to land use/coverage changes of the study area and sets up a logistic equation. It has set up two kinds of demand meant to simulate the land use/coverage change in this area. The model simulation results are determined to be credible according to the applicability of the CLUE-S model to the regional land-use changes simulation. By validating the model simulation results, it verifies the applicability of the CLUE-S model to the regional land-use changes simulation. Also, the effect on the spatio-temporal land use patterns of the Jishixia reservoir construction is small; the affected area is mainly in the submerged area.
