Abstract

Dynamic simulations are very important for the design of new deployable structures for space applications. We present here a new kind of deployable structure, which can be used as a backbone for a large deployable paraboloidal reflector antenna. Through a simplified rigid multi-body model with certain constraints, dynamic simulations of the deploying processes are carried out. The structure can be deployed successfully. The calculation model of the structure is with a packaging ratio to be 0.038, with a density to be 0.156 Kg/m2. It reveals that such a structure has a great potential to be used in a large deployable mesh antenna or other deployable structures for space applications. (5 pages)
