Abstract
In this letter, we demonstrate the dynamic shock wave induced order-disorder type phase transition exhibited by sodium nitrate single crystal and the results have been evaluated by diffraction, spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. The changeover of order into the disordered phase of NaNO3 crystal at shocked conditions is due to the occurrence of rotational disorder of planer anions (NO3).
