Abstract

Nuclear models predict a redistribution of the intraband-interband E2 strength related to low-spin yrast states when the mean shape asymmetry 〈\ensuremath{\gamma}〉 varies with spin. Thereby, a reduction of the yrast intraband E2 strength may result. Possible evidence for such a reduction is observed in $^{128}\mathrm{Ba}$ and is interpreted as a variation of the shape asymmetry 〈\ensuremath{\gamma}〉 with increasing spin. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
