Abstract

Abstract This work focuses on the emerging topic of Dynamic Risk Analysis (DRA), as opposed to traditional static risk analysis. DRA fundamentals are introduced by discussing the overall understanding of the risk concepts. Its functioning is described by presenting the dynamic version of the main risk analysis steps, according to the main variables involved: the accident scenario, its frequency and its consequences. The methodological focus is an important aspect to consider in order to avoid any ambiguity between DRA, real-time techniques and traditional risk analysis. Moreover, to better understand DRA, we must understand the framework in which it is encompassed. All these elements help define DRA and the concepts on which it is based and allow glimpsing the way forward for future and enhanced DRA techniques.
