Abstract

Machine type communication (MTC) imposes serious challenges for the cellular network operators due to congestion and scarce channel resource. The heterogeneous MTC network having variable delay tolerance may further aggravate these challenges. This paper advocates to utilize the confluence of fixed data aggregator (FDA) and multiple mobile data aggregators (MDAs) to cater delay intolerant (mission critical) and tolerant MTC devices, respectively. In this vein, a distributed MDA selection algorithm is proposed to assist an FDA, which is conventionally used for data aggregation. In addition, a dynamic resource allocation algorithm for an FDA is also proposed to efficiently allocate limited channel resources among MTC devices. Performance analysis reveals that our proposed schemes outper-form the existing schemes by improving the outage probability and system throughput.
