Abstract

The effects of stress history on the dynamic properties of two marine clays have been investigated by means of resonant column and cyclic triaxial tests. It is shown that both the overconsolidation ratio and the maximum past pressure have a significant influence on the dynamic shear modulus. The effects of these variables are less significant for the damping ratio. Shear moduli normalized with respect to the undrained shear strength (G/Su) are correlated with shear strain and overconsolidation ratio. The normalized shear moduli were found to decrease with increasing overconsolidation ratio.
