Abstract
The Pettifor-Ward analytic pairpotential is employed to evaluate longitudinal and transverse phonon frequencies of Pt and Cr liquid metals through the use of Takeno and Goda's equations. In the long-wave limit the phonon frequencies are found to exhibit a linear behavior with κ and from the slopes of these linear plots the elastic constants are calculated for both metals. The analytical pairpotential functions are also used to calculate the elastic constants of these liquid metals using Schofield's equations. Our results agree with both previous calculations and other experimental work.
