Abstract

Incoherent quasielastic neutron scattering from semi-oriented polycrystalline samples of α,ω-dibromoalkane/urea-d 4 inclusion compounds has been studied as a function of sample orientation, length of guest (α,ω-dibromoalkane) molecule, and temperature. In the high-temperature phase of these materials, the guest molecules, constrained within the urea tunnel structure, undergo translational (and oscillatory) motions along the tunnel axis and uniaxial rotational diffusion about the tunnel axis. Quantitative dynamics information relating to these motional models is presented.
