Abstract

This paper presents the linearized dynamic phasor model of the thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) for subsynchronous resonance(SSR) study. The proposed model is easily compatible with the conventional models to set up the state-space equations for eigenvalue analysis. The approach is an attractive method for modeling the switching devices. The models are expressed in terms of dynamic phasors in xy and dq reference frame. The developed dynamic model is used to estimate the damping of subsynchronous oscillation in power system. The studies focus on the SSR mitigation effect of TCSC operation compared with fixed series compensation. The eigenvalue results demonstrate that in the capacitive operating region the developed models capture the dynamic characteristics of TCSC. (5 pages)
