Abstract

Dynamic models are created for evaluating electric variable transmissions (EVTs) that were invented by Allison Transmission Division of General Motors. The models are based on Kane's equations. Performance of the transmissions was simulated using the models. Mechanical losses were considered. The capacities of the transmission output power and torque while the engine runs on the best fuel economy curve for a given one-mode or three-mode EVT are investigated, respectively. The operating behaviours of the mechanical and electric units (transmission, motors/generators) are also studied. The results show an effective way to evaluate EVT's design concept.
