Abstract

We propose a new hybrid optical amplifier utilizing two-stage configuration with a silica-based Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and a semiconductor optical amplifier, in which the gain profile can be equalized dynamically against the input signal level. Proposed hybrid optical amplifier has gain excursion of less than 1dB over the 27 nm (1534 nm–1561 nm) wavelength range, for the input signal power of -18 dBm∼-23 dBm per channel.
