Abstract

Abstract: Mobility patterns has reasonably attracted research interest in recent years, especially concerning Mega-Cities. The technological advances, especially concerning sensoring, facilitates the collection and access on a massive amount of empirical data capturing in high resolution urban mobility. The introduction and spread of location tracking devices and services provide the means for collecting reliable real-time data, particularly valuable for industrial as well as for personal applications. The scope of this paper aims to capture and mapping dynamic demand patterns in Mega-cities as this is exposed in taxi operations. Then the collective taxi services utilization appraisal is performed, identifying taxi operations characteristics that may optimize fleet performance. A large-scale dataset from New York City is analyzed, visualized and presented, providing evidence on the benefits from advanced dynamic mapping tools deployment in estimating optimal strategies for taxi operations.
