Abstract

Stress analysis is carried out for the case where two cylinders with equal length and different thickness are connected and subjected to step impulsive inner pressures. The Donnell equations are used and the relationships between the ratio of their thicknesses and maximum dynamic stresses are investigated. The fundamental equation of motion of a cylinder is analyzed by the Laplace transformation method. From the results of theoretical analyses, it is evident that the maximum dynamic hoop stresses and bending stresses become much larger than those under static loads.
