Abstract
This paper is the fourth part in a series of research reports on the dynamic behavior of gantry cranes. The hoisting dynamic coefficient is an important parameter in crane design. In this paper, the limitation of the formulas in current use calculating the hoisting dynamic coefficient is proved by both theoretical result and experimental result. A new simplified formula which will be useful in practical design is proposed. It will be helpful to the engineers engaged in the crane design and research.
