Abstract

This paper deals with the influences of high-frequency small vibratory loads and low frequency variation on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) crack growth behavior of material/environment systems sensitive to active path corrosion (APC) and/or hydrogen embrittlement (HE) type SCC, and the concept of dynamic and cyclic SCC is proposed. The effects of vibratory stress range and stress cycle frequency on dynamic SCC and those of wave form and cathodic over protection on cyclic SCC are summarized. And the importance of dynamic stresses on SCC crack growth is emphasized.
