Abstract

Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) material is formed by surface-insulated iron powder particles, generating unique properties like magnetic and thermal isotropy, and very low eddy current loss. This paper delineates the key aspects of soft magnetic composite (SMC) material application in Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM), through dynamic magnetic characterization using Switched Reluctance Design and Simulation software (SRDaS). Three types of switched reluctance motors have been analyzed: (i) Motor with M19 steel, (ii) Motor with SMC500, and (iii) Motor with SMC1000. The comparative analysis is based on the magnetic properties and the calculated parameters of each motor model. The studied electromagnetic parameters are flux linkage, current and the electromagnetic torque.
