We agree that clarity and specificity in communicating with families are essential. The case narrative, however, was not intended to fully detail all of the conversations; rather, it focused on the process of forgoing treatment while maintaining care. A separate article in this series details the importance of and strategies for communication in palliative and end-of-life care (1), and we recommend it to Annals readers.Reference1.
