Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper presents the results of the investigation into the process of magnetic treatment of water for application in the dyeing of wool and woolen fabrics. The parameters, such as electrolytic conductivity, surface tension, pH, hardness, and temperature, were measured before and after the magnetic treatment. The optimum conditions of treating water in a magnetic field ensuring the best parameters of the dyed fabric were established. The parameters of the magnetic treatment are optimal if the magnetic field is induced to 0.18 T, water flows through the magnetic field in a rubber tube, and treatment time is from 4 to 5 s. Laboratory tests of the so dyed fabrics showed they had increased absorption of the dye and significantly improved color fastness to washing and wet rubbing. The results of the experiments with the dyeing of wool and woolen fabrics in magnetically treated water suggest that in optimum process conditions the economic effect reduced the dye consumption by about 15% together with improved dyeing quality.
