Abstract

Adsorption is an efficient method of water decolorization. Here, we tested electrospun scaffolds made of polylactide (PLA)+gelatin blend on the sorption of five cationic and anionic dyes. In respect of each dye, the adsorption capacities of the electrospun scaffolds were larger than the adsorption capacities of the solution-cast films made of the same material. At the same time, gelatin-containing materials performed better than their PLA counterparts. The highest adsorption capacity of electrospun PLA + gelatine scaffold was registered for Bromocresol green (2927 μg/g), the lowest - for Pyronin Y (283 μg/g). The PLA + gelatin scaffolds represent a novel class of polymer-protein sorbents.
