Abstract

Plasmon–polaritons of the type of Dyakonov surface waves propagating along the plane boundary of a hyperbolic metamaterial with an arbitrary orientation of its crystallographic axis are considered. Conditions of the existence of fast, slow, leaking-in, leaking-out, forward, and backward plasmon–polaritons are found. A waveguide in the shape of an asymmetric layer of a hyperbolic metamaterial is examined. An expression for the electromagnetic energy density in this metamaterial is given.
