Abstract

Bilingualism represents a crucial question in education and nowadays we can see bilingual classes more and more often. It involves the knowledge of a foreign language, which is essential in a developing globalized world. What is more, the interests of bilingualism are common, because of three reasons. First of all, there are more ethnic minorities in Europe, secondly because of the intensity of emigration to the richest countries in Europe and, finally, the rising mobility in society, coup[led with access to technology and media. As a result people should be conscious that bilingualism remains one of the most important topics in the developing world and will have an influence on millions of people’s lives. The article focuses on issues of bilingualism, explains its definition and types, and emphasizes the most important rules of bilingualism teaching. Additionally, it discusses the effects of bilingual education and concentrates on the teacher’s role, which is a very important element in achieving success.
