Abstract

Patients and their families expect openness and honesty from their healthcare providers. It is no longer considered acceptable for doctors to retain information from patients that patients themselves might consider important. The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has recently published guidance on the duty of candour as it applies to diagnostic radiology.1 This guidance represents the culmination of 4 years of work by a multidisciplinary working party. It provides support to departments and radiologists in fulfilling their obligations under the statutory duty of candour.
