Abstract

HST WFPC2 images of over two hundred 3CR extragalactic radio sources have been obtained. We have used these images to show the relationships between radio and optical jets and dust disks in unprecedented detail and with unprecedented clarity. We find a variety of morphological characteristics amongst the dust features, including dust disks that are perpendicular to jets, others that are not, and dust features that are less symmetric in appearance. The dust morphology in turn offers clues to the origin of the dust and the origin of nuclear activity. We investigate relationships between the dust morphology and characteristics of the associated radio sources and host galaxies in order to seek information on the physical connection between the two phenomena.
